Triumph Magneto Timing Cover

This was a project that incorporated design and engineering to create a better operating and more esthetically pleasing part. By far this was the longest and most extensive project I have ever worked on. Having owned one myself I saw a need for a better ignition system for older Triumph motorcycles. In the 60s there was a company called ARD who produced self contained ignition systems for plane and motorcycle engines. I loved several things about their design, the old cast aluminum esthetic, minimal electronic attributes not to mention it was a system that didn’t require a battery. This project was funded out of my own pocket and was only worked on in my free time. I wanted to bring the finished prototype to market, but ran out of money and momentum. The motorcycle below is the only machine with the part installed. My partner on this project Kenneth Write of Rocket Works design helped with design and mechanical input. We really had fun making this thing come together.
